Family Volunteering: Meet Some Of The Compassionate Families Making A Difference In Our Community

A great way to bond and to give back!

Most of life's best moments are those we spend with family and friends. There are not many things as satisfying as spending some of those moments supporting less fortunate members of the wider human family. Meet the selfless families supporting our work with disadvantaged communities in London.

Meet Kyoko and her family

Kyoko is of Japanese extraction and resides with her family in the UK. Currently doing a degree programme at the university, she started her volunteering journey at Refuge Network with Tetsuya, her younger son. Last week, dad and her elder son joined us at Charing Cross to support the community. They all served at the soup kitchen and helped with distributing food parcels to rough sleepers at Leicester Square and Covent Garden.

Shamira volunteers with her children

Family Volunteering is a great way to spend time together and inculcate altruistic values in kids. Meet Jasmine and her little brother Louis who are volunteering with mum, Shamira Graham, at Refuge Network to support the community. Shamira is a University of Oxford trained clinician and Corporate Solutions Director of a major mental health organisation. She has been supporting our community work with her daughter Jasmine. Last month, little Louis tagged along and was very helpful at the soup kitchen. He also took part in the street outreach to Waterloo.

Louise volunteers with her daughter Amy

Louise is English and holds a bachelor's degree in Education. She has been with Refuge Network for about eight months. Her empathetic daughter Amy also volunteers regularly on her own and with her mother.
